STRAY coffee roasters

Analog series about coffee - developed in the very coffee

For this project, I worked with Stray Coffee Roasters and their latest specialty coffee they crafted - the UBA FAMILY coffee, macerated with banana.

To celebrate their unique craft, I chose unique approach—using this very coffee as the medium to develop the photographs. Bringing the images to life in a way that feels overall connected, allowing the coffee to truly soak into the photographs.

Last year, I began experimenting with Caffenol, a sustainable and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional darkroom B&W chemicals. Usually made with instant coffee, I wanted to push the method further, testing it with real coffee beans. After some trials, the vision became reality with this special collaboration.

The result is an analog series about coffee, developed quite literally in coffee. The Caffenol process is largely chemical-free (aside from the fixer), making it more sustainable, environmentally friendly developing process.

Creating conceptual, custom-tailored projects rooted in analog techniques holds a special significance to me—especially in times of AI-generated imagery. This slow, handcrafted process feels more valuable and authentic than ever.

Concept and photography by me, including developing, scanning and retouch.
